Kindred (Jackie) Reeves, born 22 April1847 in Haywood County, N.C., began his military career on 30 April 1864 when heenlisted as a private in Company C, 1st Battalion North Carolina Junior Reserves(also referred to as the 9th Battalion North Carolina Junior Reserves). He was laterpromoted to sergeant and sent to Goldsboro, N.C., to be transferred to regularservice as a member of Clingman's Brigade. His military service included action inWilmington, N.C.; Weldon, N.C.; Bellefield, Va.; Petersburg, Va.; Tarboro, N.C.; andGoldsboro, N.C. The collection consists of a handwritten Civil Warreminiscence, 1907, of Kindred Reeves, including the beforethe war; his family's reaction to seeing the eldest boy off to war; and his serviceduring the war, including the guarding and treatment of northern prisoners and theattack on Fort Fisher, N.C. campaign and the intense excitement of the secession advocates
